Batang Brodkaster Annual Derby
The Batang Brodkaster derby (Videos by children, for children, and about children) will draw to a close on November 15, 2008.
From the entries, Anak TV will select the country’s bets to international video competitions and festivals such as the One Minute Festival in Amsterdam, Japan Prize, Baka Forum in Germany, Chinh India, Lola Kenya contest, VideoTivoili in Finland and may other international derbies.
Batang Brodkaster accepts video materials written, directed, and shot by Filipinos 18 years old and below using video equipment available to them, from advanced gadgets to the simplest multi-media cellphone. The annual derby aims to allow children to communicate on their own level and to present materials that directly affect them, utilizing the modern child’s aptitude in media, translating it into meaningful materials which can be shared with others across the nation and the world through broadcasting.
The activity is known to level the playing field among children of all ages, persuasions, social classes, creeds and physical conditions.
Entrants may submit their original 1- to 5 minute video materials with themes ranging from serious social issues like the environment or poverty, to playful topics about their pastimes, pets, profiles of their favorite persons!
Entries will be screened and videos that meet the judges’ keen broadcasting palates will get the chance to be aired on local, cable, and national television, aside from the entrants receiving handsome gifts from Anak TV supporters.
The project is one of the many innovative and groundbreaking activities spearheaded by Anak TV in its quest to change the national media landscape into one that is sensitive to the developmental needs of Filipino youngsters.

* Entry must be submitted on DVD format along with the script

Sa Natutunaw na Balita!!!!
Rape victim humiling ng re-enactment. Humiling ang isang rape victim ng re-enactment sa ginawang pagtakas sa lalaking nang-rape sa kanya. Ginagawa ng babae ang kahilingan matapos ipagpilitan ng suspek na kusa niyang pinalaya ang biktima. Ayon sa biktima siya ay nakatakas nang makatulog ang suspek matapos ang ginawang pangrirape

Kakulangan ng tubig isinisi sa baha. Maraming tao sa Manila ang nagkasakit ng diarrea dahil sa pag-inum ng maruming tubig. Nagkarun ng kakulangan ng malinis na tubig dahil sa mga pagbaha na naging dahilan para macontaminate ang water supply.
Lalaki bumunggo sa bus, naospital. Naospital si Rex matapos bungguin ang bus na sasakyan sana. Hinahabol ni Rex ang bus nang biglang huminto ang sasakyan dahil may tumawid sa kalye. Hindi napansin ni Rex ang paghinto ng bus dahil nakalingon siya sa isang babae. Sumalpok si Rex sa bus.

Veteran TV reporter trains local youth
Davao City (14 June) -- The youth Television reporters of Kabataan News Network KNN) were again treated to a capability-building workshop last June 11-12 in the art of television news reporting.
The workshop held at the Philippine Information Agency regional office was led by Jay Orense, producer of the GMA –7 documentary show “Pinoy Abroad.” Mr. Orense updated the KNN reporters on various aspects of TV reporting like voicing on television, the art of stand-up reporting and on-camera interview.
A lecture on journalism ethics and the process of in-depth television reporting were also discussed. “TV reporting is not a glamorous job, it’s not how you look on Television but it’s how you do on TV.” Said Mr. Orense stressing the its’ not always the face value that counts but how the job was properly done.
Jay Orense was part of the Probe Team’s pool of reporters among his contemporaries included Bernadette Sembrano, Karen Davila and Howie Severino. Later he became a producer for the GMA-7 documentary show “I-witness.” He is now the producer of “Pinoy Abroad” a tele-documentary show which features Filipinos in different parts of the world.
The workshop, which features interactive methods, like hands-on on-cam interviewing and stand-uppers with individual critiquing, is designed to effectively upgrade the individual skills of KNN reporters which have already been trained professionally.
“Watch Pinoy Abroad and look at how ate Rhea (show’s host Rhea Santos) does her stand-up.” Jay tells his KNN reporters making sure that the skills taught will not be forgotten and also stressing that what was being imparted to them is also at par with what is being taught to professional reporters like Rhea Santos and Ivan Mayrina.
KNN is weekly television tele-magazine show shown every Saturdays on ABC 5. Funded bu the United Nations Children’s Fund and Plan International, the show is the first on Philippine TV as the show itself is conceptualized, written, shot and voiced by youth reporters ranging from 13- 19 years old.
KNN Davao is made up of Llaben Pacalles, Jona Marie Suñer, Chloe Gopo, Mark Lloyd Revilla, Nidjee Oquialda, Mary Ann Sarigumba, Alberto Egot Jr., Shemie Ann Magallen, and Moddasir Calagan. Since KNN Davao’s inception in 2003 it’s youth reporters have produced more than 20 stories, which have been shown, on ABC-5, ANC, NBN and Nickelodeon channels. (PIA/RG Alama).

Davao youth TV reporters join Manila workshops

Davao City (16 May) -- Three youth television reporters of the Kabataan News Network-Davao City Bureau recently underwent a four-day workshop in Manila last May 9-12, to upgrade their skills in television reporting.
Held in Astoria Plaza Suites in Ortigas Center in Pasig City, the National workshops entitled "Sensitizing Children and Youth in Human Rights: Appreciating the rights and humanity of others." Aims to arm the KNN reporters with basic awareness and knowledge on human rights that would reflect on their reportage of the various stories that they would produced.
The three Davao reporters; Nidjee Oquialda, 17; Mark Lloyd Revilla, 17 and Alberto Egot Jr. 17,were part of the 38 youth reporters which had come from different KNN bureaus across the country.
Among the speakers in the workshop facilitated by Hope Abella a noted child rights advocate were; Cheche Lazaro who spoke on the power of media and the consecutive duty of the reporters to be balance, fair and truthful.
United Nations Childrens Fund (Unicef) Communications Director Dale Rutstein emphasized the Kabataan News Network as a rights based media outfit made specifically for the youth.
Among the varied speakers who participated in the workshop were; Atty. Marlon Manuel of Saligan alternative law group. Ms. Marie Ann Cayas of Amnesty International, Ms. Grace Alejandrino of the Council for the Protection of Children, Professor Marivic Leonen of the UP law school, Commissioner Evelyn Dunuan of the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women and Ms. Matet Diokno of the Freedom from Debt Coalition.
The speakers explained the concept of human rights and gave situationer on the current human rights situation in the Philippines touching on Child and women's rights, economic social and political rights issues.
Aside from workshop, the reporters also visited the Supreme Court of the Philippines were they were briefed by Supreme Court Senior Deputy Administrator Zenaida Elipaño on the new rules of procedure on the examination of child-witness.
Aside from workshops and briefings, the youth reporters took part in the pictorial sessions for the new KNN show billboard, which promises to be more cooler hippier and trendier and more attuned to its format being a youth tele-magazine show.
KNN is a weekly tele-magazine show produced by Unicef, Plan International and Probe Media Foundation Incoprorated. A groundbreaking program in Philippine television in which youth reporters ages 13-19 years old coming from 13 different locales in the country including Davao wholly produce various segments which is in turn shown on nationwide Television.
